Version 0.1 in preparation · active development

Rustainer

Why native

  1. Fast and light

Written in Rust with GTK4. No web runtime to load.

  2. Integrated with the desktop

Libadwaita, automatic light and dark theme, notification area icon.

  3. No browser inside

Not a packaged web app: no webview, no Electron.

Features

Remote hosts and security

Besides the local Unix socket, Rustainer connects to remote hosts. Multiple hosts at the same time, with automatic reconnection.

  • TLS

Remote hosts over TCP with TLS. Client certificates live in the system keyring, never in plain text on disk.

  • SSH tunnel

Built-in SSH tunnel to reach remote hosts.

  • Fingerprint to confirm

With SSH, you confirm the server key on first connection by checking its fingerprint.

  • Key changed, connection refused

If the key changes later, the connection is refused.

  1. Rustainer GTK4 app
  2. Local relay Process on your PC
  3. TLS or SSH Encrypted channel
  4. Docker daemon Remote host
App → local relay → TLS or SSH tunnel → Docker daemon. With SSH, you confirm the server fingerprint on first connection.
